About Sensing Clues

Sensing Clues is a technology non-profit organisation dedicated to helping nature conservationists worldwide transform data into actionable, proactive and targeted information for protecting wildlife, biodiversity, and natural landscapes. Since our founding in 2015, we've partnered with 12 organisations, 5 staff members, and around 30 volunteers, supporting conservation efforts in 15 countries across 4 continents. We now assist approximately 400 ranger teams in countries like Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Kenya, South Africa, and India, and have expanded protected areas from 380,000 to nearly 8 million hectares.

We believe that data-driven nature conservation is the key to turn wild spaces into safe havens. By mobilizing a interdisciplinary network of dedicated individuals and hand-picked Solution Partners, we boost the impact of our Field Partners. We achieve this by offering advanced data-driven technologies that provide actionable insights for combating wildlife crime, enhancing biodiversity, and managing human-wildlife coexistence.

Your rOle

One of Sensing Clues' technologies, Cluey, is an Android mobile app where users can enter observations and run tracks. Users collaborate in groups, similar to WhatsApp, with the group administrator managing numerous settings via their phone. However, managing these settings on a small screen can be challenging due to limited visibility.

Your role is to develop a web application that allows for easier group administration, providing a more comprehensive and user-friendly interface for managing group settings.

Your skills

  • Interest in nature and wildlife management

  • Proficiency in React

  • Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus

  • Ability to work independently

Our offer

First and foremost, you'll be joining a meaningful cause. You will contribute directly to enhancing nature conservation efforts. While you won't be working in the field, your work will significantly support our partners by improving their group management capabilities. And you will be part of a motivated and enjoyable team of volunteers, staff, and freelancers, all driven by a shared passion. This positive atmosphere fosters excellent collaboration.

You will receive comprehensive guidance - both technical and organizational - to ensure you not only build a great application but also develop and learn. Our goal is for you to complete the project successfully and with a strong outcome.

The internship offers a maximum remuneration of 300 euros per month. There may also be opportunities to visit one of our partners in Africa or Europe for a few weeks. Although we cannot cover travel expenses for these visits, they promise to be unforgettable experiences.

Logistics

The assignment is ideally scheduled for the first half of 2025. At Sensing Clues, we primarily work remotely via Slack, but we also meet weekly in Nieuwegein. We expect the assignment to last around 3 months, requiring 3-4 working days per week. We offer flexibility in working hours and days, and the duration of the assignment can be adjusted by mutual agreement.
